Eating with the seasons isn’t just a trendy foodie thing—it’s a foundational naturopathic principle. Nature knows what our bodies need, when we need it. In winter, the cooler temps call for warmth, nourishment, and grounding foods that support immunity and energy. Cue the winter harvest!

Here’s what’s in season in NSW this chilly time of year:
🥦 Veggies:
Broccoli & Cauliflower – Rich in vitamin C, which supports immune function and helps fight off winter bugs. Also packed with fibre to support gut health and detox pathways.
Brussels Sprouts – High in vitamin K (great for bone health), vitamin C, and glucosinolates—compounds that help support liver detoxification.
Carrots & Pumpkin – Loaded with beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, which supports healthy skin and mucous membranes (your first line of defence against colds and flu).
Kale & Silverbeet – Nutrient powerhouses! Full of iron, calcium, and antioxidants to support energy, bones, and general resilience.
Leeks – A member of the allium family, they’re rich in prebiotics, which feed your good gut bugs—essential for immunity and mood.
Parsnips & Sweet Potatoes – Complex carbs for sustained energy, plus potassium to help regulate blood pressure and support nervous system health.
🍎 Fruits:
Apples & Pears – High in fibre (especially pectin), which keeps digestion ticking over and helps balance blood sugar.
Mandarins, Oranges, Lemons & Grapefruit – Citrus fruits are packed with vitamin C, flavonoids, and immune-loving antioxidants.
Kiwi Fruit – One of the richest sources of vitamin C, plus it’s great for digestion thanks to the enzyme actinidin.
🌿 Why Seasonal Eating Matters:
Better nutrition – Produce picked in its natural season is richer in vitamins and minerals. For example, winter citrus is at peak vitamin C when we need it most.
Budget-friendly – In-season fruit and veg are more abundant and cost less. Win-win!
Better for the environment – Seasonal and local means fewer food miles and less need for artificial ripening or storage.
Tastes amazing – Ever noticed how a winter mandarin just hits different? That’s seasonal magic right there.
Enjoy the best this winter season has to offer.
